Visiting Syracuse means discovering the origins and cradle of culture. It was indeed the main center of Greek Sicily, homeland of great artists and philosophers. It’s worth remembering that Archimedes, one of the greatest scientists of all time, was born in Syracuse. The philosopher Plato chose it to implement his model of the ideal State.
Cicero, after conquering it in 212 BC, described it as the “greatest and most beautiful Greek city”.
Following the violent earthquake that occurred in 1693, the city adopted the Baroque style, which still distinguishes it today.
In 2005, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city of Noto is famous worldwide for its architectural style. It is indeed one of the centers where Sicilian Baroque expresses all its charm, defined by many as the “perfect Baroque city”. The art critic Ugo Ojetti defines it as a “unique monument”, emphasizing the harmony and balance that pervades the entire center.
Perfect examples of the Baroque style are the Church of San Carlo Borromeo (1730) and the Church of San Domenico (1703) where the Doric and Ionic styles of the facade blend in a perfect synthesis.
